Emigrant (77) lives her best years in Italy: "It was the best decision"

A British woman feels younger and freer in Italy. She enjoys her new freedom and the relaxed atmosphere without social barriers.
Norma Williams, 77, originally from Great Britain, decided to emigrate to the picturesque region of Umbria in Italy decades ago. She initially bought a cheap property in Spolento, which she renovated together with her former husband, reports iNews .
However, her final move to Italy didn't happen until she met her current husband, Laurie. She proudly says, "It was the best decision we ever made."
Williams describes how life for older women in Italy is far more positive than in the UK. Normal social standards in Italy seem much less limited and subject to prejudice.
Her social circle in Italy is largely made up of younger friends with whom she can go out without social reservations. Williams explains: "Most of my friends are in their 40s. We go out drinking with them. That would have been impossible at home."
Integrating into Italian society was surprisingly easy for Norma Williams. She emphasizes that Italians are open and welcoming in everyday life. According to iNews, the class gap in Italy is not particularly noticeable compared to the United Kingdom.
Williams has decided not to return to the UK, as her life in Italy seems significantly more fulfilling. She enjoys Italian culture and rejects the pretentious behavior of the British middle class, which she finds boring.
